Program Description:

Create a fun and interactive book using the tunnel book structure, inspired by the artwork of Jorge Benitez, featured in the special exhibition Geometric Aljamia. Participants will  view the exhibition to spark their creativity and then create a tunnel book influenced by the architectural arches of the Middle East and Mediterranean Basin. The book consists of paper layers forming a “tunnel” with a foreground, mid-ground, and background.

Join us for this virtual Lecture, Illuminating the Paper Vessel, with guest speaker Helen Hiebert, which will focus on Helen’s artistic research into creating sculptural paper forms, many of them rooted in Japanese tradition. Helen will talk about and show the similarities and differences between the construction of Japanese lanterns (chochin) and inflatable paper sculpture ranging from hot air balloons (large scale) to kamifusen (small paper balloons).

In celebration of Poetry month, join us for this fun workshop that combines bookbinding and poetry. Participants will learn how to make an octavo pamphlet binding, and then have the chance to write a simple poem to start the book off. Participants will also be given a list of daily poetry prompts for the month of April to further inspire poetic writings. Kit not included but supply list provided. All skill levels welcome!

Virtual Workshop: Fast Film Fest – Bringing Inanimate 3-D Objects to Life. Stop Motion using paper can take the form of both 2-dimensional cut out animation or 3-dimensional using paper puppets or 3-D origami. This workshop focuses on fine tuning the performance of 3-D animated objects.

Description: Create beautiful, oversized paper poinsettias to bring cheer to your holiday decorations! Explore poinsettia petal structures, and create oversized flowers to bring a pop of color into any environment. Discover interesting ways to transform ordinary paper into a decorative flower. All skill levels welcome and and kits will be shipped to participants. Shipping not available outside the United States. Register by Tuesday, November 30th to receive a kit.
